Sustainability at the Association

Sustainability is not just recycling, it is about all aspects of our lives, and this year we plan to look at as many areas as possible, with a focus on what is most relevant to you, our students.

This year we are giving focus to sustainability both within and outwith the university.  This means lots of exciting events and opportunities for you to get involved.

Would you like to get involved? Join our team of Sustainability Champions by emailing hello@abertaysa.com

Sustainability Champions are students who volunteer to take on an additional role in promoting awareness of sustainability issues amongst their student peers to encourage environmental action. You’ll work with Association staff to raise awareness of opportunities to engage with sustainability across the University and the city.

As a Sustainability Champion you will:

  • Be active in your role for at least two academic semesters.
  • Attend an initial briefing session and any further information sessions as required.
  • Be involved in running at least one social media takeover to raise awareness of environmental sustainability activities.
  • Be involved in organising at least one event on campus per semester to encourage awareness and participation in sustainable activities
  • Champion environmental sustainability in your subject area.
  • Regularly record your personal environmental actions.
  • Ensure that feedback is collected at all sustainability events.
  • HEAR Accrediation for this role has been approved.

There will be an initial briefing session to outline the Association’s approach to environmental sustainability and your role.
You’ll be supported throughout the year by the Association Sustainability Co-ordinator, Fi Brunton, and invited to further training as required.

1. Abertaysty

Abertaysty is a project provided by Abertay Students' Association to offer free food to students.

The food is sourced from FareShare, a charity set up to fight hunger and tackle food waste. Working with FareShare we purchase quality surplus food that is available to us each week.

We try to get a variety of foods for a balanced diet of donated foods each week. The stall runs on a Tuesday and the times are available on our page.

2. Household Goods (referral needed)

If you need free household goods Dundee Starter Packs may be able to help.

To access this you need to get a referral.

Referrals can be granted by contacting hello@abertaysa.com
